Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 24 September 2026

Walk Kansas is for everyone in Kansas, and that includes people who use assistive technology. This statement explains how accessible Walk Kansas Online currently is, what we know is not yet right, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.

What we aim for

We have adopted the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA as our standard for this site. WCAG 2.2 AA includes everything required by the earlier 2.0 and 2.1 versions of the guidelines.

How accessible this site is

Walk Kansas Online substantially conforms to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Of the 56 success criteria that apply, 54 are fully supported and 2 are partially supported. None is unsupported.

A full Accessibility Conformance Report, prepared on the standard VPAT 2.5Rev template, is available on request from the address below.

What we know is not yet right

  • Error messages are not linked to the field that caused them. When a form is submitted with a problem, the errors are listed in text at the top of the page, but a screen reader is not taken to the specific field at fault, and the fields themselves are not marked as invalid. You are told what is wrong, but you may have to hunt for where.
  • There is no site search or sitemap. Every page carries the same navigation menu, and the dashboard links to the main sections, but there is only really one way to find your way around rather than the two the guidelines ask for.

Both are on our list to fix, and this page will be updated when they are.

How we tested

The site was assessed in September 2026 against WCAG 2.2 Levels A and AA, covering the public pages, the registration process, the participant experience, and the screens used by county extension agents and administrators.

Testing combined automated checking with axe-core across every screen and manual testing by a person: operating every control using only the keyboard, inspecting how each control is announced to assistive technology, measuring colour contrast, and checking that the site still works when text is enlarged to 200 percent, when the window is only 320 pixels wide, and when text spacing is increased.

The assessment was carried out by Square Lines LLC, who build and operate the site. It has not been independently audited by a third party.
